One of Ireland’s most exciting new bands, John Deery & The Heads, look destined for big things, with their new album ‘Smoke & Mirrors’ set to be released on 7th of June. The album was recorded in Black Box Studios in France with former Frames guitarist and renowned producer David Odlum. John said: “We recorded the album in one week and did every song live. It’s a great experience making an album like this, where you’re trying to capture a very real sound of a band playing together. Most albums today are over produced and highly polished, we wanted to make an album the way bands used to”.
Producer David Odlum, who has recorded artists like The Frames , Gemma Hayes and David Kitt, is one of Ireland’s most respected producers, recently working on the critically acclaimed soundtrack for the film ‘Once’. John added:
“David was great to work with and was really enthusiastic about our music. Black Box studio is an amazing place to record and we’re really excited about the album”.
This is the band’s first album, following two solo releases from John Deery; Life to This (2005) and Pen & Ink (2008). To promote the album, The Heads are now set for a busy summer of touring and playing festivals across the UK and Ireland, starting this week with a show at the first ‘Macfest’ festival in Ballymoney on Saturday 29th May and then at the ‘Gypsy Ball’ as part of Derry’s Carnivale of Colours in St Columb’s Park on Sunday 30th May. Other shows throughout the summer include performing across three days at Rockness festival in Scotland, The Roisin Dubh in Galway and Whelans in Dublin.
