Will 2013 be Derry’s Year?

derryDerry – Londonderry is awaiting the exciting news of whether it is has been shortlisted for the 2013 City of Culture bid. The city is one of 14 in the UK vying for the title, with an announcement of the winner later in the Spring.

With such a rich cultural history, Derry is hoping to be recognised for its achievements aplenty to date. Prestigious and world renowned ambassadors such as the Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney and musician Feargal Sharkey have come on board to support the city’s bid for recognition.
As it happens the city celebrates its 400th anniversary in 2013 so in many ways those working hard behind the scenes are hoping that it is Derry’s destiny to claim the title. The shortlist will be announced next month – February.

Sound Communications supports the City of Culture of bid and would encourage those living and working in the city to do the same. The opportunities from winning such an honour would give Northern Ireland’s second city a very welcome and needed boost .
